Ceramics and Frida

Image
I have been exploring many different mediums and techniques around portraiture with Frida as my muse. I recently took my pottery journey to the next level by buying a kiln and pottery wheel and setting up half of my studio for pottery. I made some plates and a bowl and then painted a Frida Kahlo Portrait on them. The Bowl had some carving on the sides and red glaze on the outside. This plate was made from a mold. I used a stamp LOVE and then painted the portrait all with underglaze and glaze and then did a clear glaze on top. The plate is also made from a mold and glazed with a last coat of clear. I wish I did not put clear glaze on top of the red and black glaze as they turned out to be lighter.
