Hope and Healing

My latest inspiration for paintings have been the birds in my yard or the forest and beach walks.

I especially love all the hummingbirds. I have been enjoying painting them. I have also enjoyed playing with feather designs. I have been finding some feathers and they have inspired me too.

The smallest birds in the world have fascinated people since ancient times. The hummingbird’s interesting characteristics attract attention and make it a powerful symbol. "Indigenous people have a strong connection to nature and this is reflected in the symbolic meanings of hummingbirds. The bird carries a different meaning for different tribes, from messenger, luck, healing and energy.

"The hummingbird is a small bird that holds strong symbolism from all around world as a symbol of life, joy and freedom to many people.

The interest in a hummingbird is easy to understand. From the physical ability to drink nectar from flowers to the hummingbird spirit that inspires joy in life. It is a special creature with special meaning."

"Feathers symbolize honor and a connection between the owner, the Creator, and the bird from which the feather came. It symbolizes trust, honor, strength, wisdom, power, and freedom."

Making art is healing and creative for me, however I also hope for it to make a difference. I  will continue to make donations to organizations that are making a difference in the world from any art I sell.

At this time, I would like to give 10 percent of proceeds of any art creations to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and Reconciliation Canada. I hope that there will be more healing and support to all the families affected by the atrocities that have happened. I also hope for healing of all the injustices and pain that Indigenous people have experienced. I hope we can all heal, have reconciliation and create a better country.

The Indian Residential School Survivors society's mandate is "To assist First Nation Peoples in British Columbia to recognize and be holistically empowered from the primary and generational effect of the Residential Schools by supporting research, education, awareness, partnerships, and advocating for justice and healing. The Society assists Survivors with counselling, court support, information, referrals, workshops, and more."

"Reconciliation Canada is leading the way in engaging Canadians in dialogue and transformative experiences that revitalize the relationships among Indigenous peoples and all Canadians. Each person has an important role to play in reconciliation. Reconciliation begins with oneself and then extends into our families, relationships, workplaces and eventually into our communities."

I have attached the links to these organizations websites.
