Flora to Fauna series in progress

Image
I have been working on the Flora Forest series with the intention to then move forward to Fauna of the Forest. The two can be separate or together in my mind as the are symbiotic. Recently, I saw a beautiful movie called Nature Girl . It was filmed on the Sunshine Coast.   Filmmaking duo Trent Maynard and Candace Campo, ancestral name xets’emits’a (to always be there), spend five years documenting the surprising species living in a wetland in the shíshálh Nation swiya (also known today as the Sunshine Coast, BC, Canada). Nature Girl is an intimate introduction to our non-human fellow citizens: the plant and animal beings of the swiya. Using poetry and motion sensor cameras, the film documents intergenerational black bear families scratching at a scratch post, and bathing in a small watering hole, alongside elk, newts, frogs, owls and bats.   We were lucky to see a viewing at school with the students and staff. Here is a small sample of this amazing movie.    ...

Friends of the Gallery Show January 2026

Daphne Odjig Portrait in Watercolour and pen 12x17 framed    I painted a series called Creative Crones, it  is inspired by female artists who continue creating in their later years, a theme that resonates as I navigate menopause. I submitted these two paintings as a diptych to the Friends of the Gallery show for January.  Daphne Odjig an Anishinaabekwe artist is a famous indigenous artist from Canadian First Nations artist from the Odawa-Potawatomi nation. I love her colourful work. I painted at reinterpretation of, Silent in our Beauty we stand, 1986. I was lucky to see her work in Winnipeg recently on a special educational trip with my school district. She is one of the founders of the Professional native Indian Artists INC. She too uses colour in a joyful way that I am inspired by. Her work is often characterized by bold colors, abstract imagery, and solid black outlines.         Silent in Our Beauty We Stand reinterpreta...

Flora series in process

Image
Flora is a series of paintings inspired by my life on the Sunshine Coast and the rich beauty of its forests. The word flora refers to the plant life of a particular region, and in Roman mythology, Flora is the goddess of flowers and spring, a symbol of love, beauty, and abundance. The forest is where I feel most connected and inspired. Walking the trails with my dog, Juno, my husband, or with family and friends through places such as Cliff Gilker Park, Hidden Grove, and Smugglers Cove, I am continually drawn to the timeless, healing presence of moss, ferns, and towering trees. Their calm energy and majesty spark both wonder and creativity. I often pause to photograph mushrooms, fungi, flowers, mosses, and ferns along these walks, gathering visual notes for my work. Most of the pieces in Flora are acrylic on canvas. While grounded in observation, the paintings are not bound to realism; instead, I play with colours such as soft pink backgrounds and unexpected hues to evoke the magi...

Present Tense show at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery June to July 2025

Image
I am so excited to be part of the Gibsons Public Art Gallery show for members. Every year there is so much amazing work displayed. This year, I displayed Frida the Third a sculpture for the first time. She was the third because the first one blew up in the kiln and the second one's earring holes were too small to fit earrings. Frida third was many hours of work and joy. I am happy to announce she was bought during the show to a happy couple. I am so pleased someone loves her as much as I do. Adios my friend! I also put 6 Tiny pieces and two of them sold so I am also very please to have the continues support of my art in its many forms and mediums.     https://www.instagram.com/reel/DMYmmRGRKaE/?igsh=bGR4NGkwYWprMjE3

Image
I have an art show currently at the Gibsons public market from mid June to mid August. I hope you get a chance to take a look while enjoying the market.  I have two series a the market. On the mail floor I have my coast series. “Going Coastal” Going coastal is a collection of some of my art works inspired by living on the Sunshine Coast   Living on the Sunshine Coast, we are lucky to have many beaches and viewpoints of the ocean. There are many water sports or walks where you get to bask in the beauty. I enjoy kayaking, outrigger paddling, swimming, walks on the beach and the harbours, beach days, reading on the beach, hunts for heart rocks and enjoying sunsets. These are truly my favorite things about living on the coast. I find just looking at the water can be healing. I believe we can all relate to its calm energy and many delights from whale watching to eagle and heron sightings. I painted most of the paintings in acrylic on canvas. I enjoyed...
